Clevedon School

Employer Engagement and Work Experience

At Clevedon School we value the opportunity for students to engage with the World of Work and discover the diverse range of jobs and careers which they can aspire to, following their time with us. Not only does this provide young people with an understanding of the pathways available to them but also allow them to draw links with their current and future learning, raising motivation and aspiration in the classroom and beyond. Throughout their time with us, students will have the opportunity to meet employers from multiple sectors of the economy. Some of these engagements take place in school, either as part of their curriculum learning or the wider school offer, whilst others occur in the workplace, as students visit companies and organisations to gain an insight into their roles and practices.

Students can look forward to two weeks of work experience in Years 10 and 12. Both weeks allow students to gain an in-depth appreciation and understanding of specific workplaces and employers which, in turn, allow them to reflect on potential future plans. These weeks also allow students to gain invaluable transferable skills which will benefit them across both their school and wider lives, including teamwork, communication skills, problem solving and many more. In addition to these weeks students may also be offered extended work placements to supplement and support their academic studies.

Clevedon School’s Employer Engagement schemes will continue to evolve to ensure that student’s needs are met. This will include changes in accordance to the new statutory Gatsby Benchmarks, which offer guidance to school and colleges’ Careers Education programmes.
